L’Osteria am Gasteig occupies the former Café Atlas at Innere Wiener Straße 2. A covered terrace provides outdoor seating in summer. The restaurant serves large, thin pizzas alongside pasta, salads and Italian starters.
Sharing a pizza, choosing separate toppings
The branch specifies a pizza diameter of 45 centimetres and offers two differently topped halves. Children can have a smaller pasta portion, and a dedicated table has materials for drawing, reading and play. Dogs are welcome too, with their own water station.
The change from café to L’Osteria followed a refurbishment lasting just under two months. Munich’s third branch opened here on 11 October 2012. At opening, the dining room held around 100 seats in 120 square metres, while the terrace was larger still at 150 square metres.
Old worktables were repurposed for the opening: a former postal sorting table became the bread station, and a factory workbench stood in the centre of the dining room. An open kitchen was also part of the original layout. The restaurant's food is also available to take away.
A meal near the historic swimming baths
A specific nearby destination is Müller'sches Volksbad at Rosenheimer Straße 1. Opened in 1901, the indoor baths combine swimming and sauna facilities with preserved Art Nouveau interiors. A meal at L’Osteria can therefore form part of a visit to this historic Munich bathhouse, which remains in use today.
