Oldenburg’s L’Osteria serves pizza inside a former postal palace, the Kaiserliche Post on Poststraße. This Neo-Renaissance building stands in the city centre, immediately beside the Schlosshöfe shopping centre and pedestrian shopping area. Large pizzas and pasta are the restaurant’s focus within this historic setting.
The building’s postal past
The Kaiserliche Postamt was inaugurated on 8 December 1902. Its predecessor had become too small, prompting construction of side and courtyard wings followed by the central building. Later extensions enlarged the complex, which underwent renovation in 2014 and 2015. Today, the former postal administration buildings house offices and service businesses as well as a restaurant.

Figures representing crafts and agriculture were placed above the portals of the original post office. A pizza can also be ordered with a different topping combination on each half for sharing.
Making your own pizza
Bambini pizza-making lets children prepare dough and choose their toppings with guidance before eating together. The package includes a drink, a certificate and a small surprise. The session lasts two hours. Dates are arranged with the restaurant.
Smaller portions and later dinners
Children can order smaller portions of the pasta dishes. Every dish is also available to take away. On Fridays and Saturdays the restaurant opens at 11.30 am and stays open until midnight, allowing for a later dinner in the centre.
