LA PIZZERIA Hannover
L’Osteria Hannover Vahrenwalder
Pizzeria in Hannover
A former electricity substation houses L’Osteria at Vahrenwalder Straße 269. The restaurant occupies the ground floor of the converted industrial building beside the water tower. Its inauguration as Hanover’s second L’Osteria was celebrated in December 2014, with guests at the opening party invited to donate to Familienzentrum Vahrenwald.
An old shell with a new interior
The former substation was built in stages during the 1920s, 1930s and 1950s. Its outer shell was retained during conversion, while new floors were installed inside. Elements salvaged from demolished historic buildings were also incorporated into the design. The outer walls were secured with a steel frame during the work.
Olive and oleander shrubs feature on the terrace. Children have high chairs, smaller pasta portions and baby-changing facilities, and dogs are welcome too. The large pizzas can be ordered with different toppings on each half.
A surviving industrial landmark
The former Stadtwerke building is listed for its historic significance. It had been earmarked for demolition before conversion. Tall windows and exposed brick now frame the dining room, with long tables and rows of chairs beneath the high ceiling.
The opening appeal sought donations for SI KulturKids, a Soroptimist Club Hannover project for children at the family centre on Vahrenwalder Straße. For dessert, the branch offers Piccolo Duetto: two small desserts of your choice. The restaurant stays open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
