Giuseppe Arcuri grew up between Kassel and Calabria. Known as Peppe, he opened his restaurant at Königstor 34 in June 2022, bringing an Italian menu to a room with walnut tables and a long upholstered bench.
A stone oven and a Calabrian topping
The kitchen gives its pizza dough at least 48 hours to mature, then bakes it directly on stone at 450°C for around 90 seconds. Pizza Calabrese is topped with tomatoes, mozzarella, spicy spreadable ’nduja sausage, olives and red onions.
The house pizza, Pizza Peppe, is a white pizza without tomato sauce: mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, spicy salami and burrata make up the toppings. Pasta choices include rigatoni alla norma with aubergine, salted ricotta and tomato sauce, and spaghettone alla carbonara with eggs, guanciale and Parmesan.
Copper details and a courtyard conservatory
Copper-coloured lights and a matching bar front sit alongside wallpaper from Milan. The long window frontage can be opened, while the conservatory in the planted rear courtyard is used throughout the year. At the bar, guests can sit on stools for a drink.
Evenings at Königstor
Peppe’s opens from 5pm Monday to Saturday and closes on Sundays. The restaurant accepts reservations for groups of up to twelve people. The telephone line, 0561 28868059, is staffed from 4pm on opening days for table enquiries.
