Piccola Posta began in a former post office in Schloß Neuhaus in December 2000. Jan Gerlach turned the premises into a restaurant, initially with standing tables, then seats and eventually more space. He still makes pizza at Bielefelder Straße 7.
From Piccola Italia to the old post office
Gerlach started learning to make pizza at sixteen in a small standing-room pizzeria called Piccola Italia. He took over when its owner returned to Italy. The end of the lease prompted the move to the old post office. Chef Baggio now works alongside him, preparing pasta, meat and fish dishes.
Cottage cheese, prawns and pumpkin seeds
Pizza Anna pairs cooked ham, marinated peppers and broccoli with cottage cheese. Gamberi has black tiger prawns, spinach, garlic and caramelised cherry tomatoes. For Al Pesto, the homemade pesto sauce is added after the pizza with tomatoes and mozzarella comes out of the oven.
Pasta Alla Baggio combines salmon and broccoli with tomato sauce and a little cream. For dessert, Semi di zucca brings together vanilla ice cream, caramelised pumpkin seeds and pumpkin seed oil; Affogato al caffe pairs vanilla ice cream with espresso.
Catering from the restaurant
Piccola Posta also delivers catering for private celebrations at home, office events and weddings. The service operates from Friday to Sunday.
