LA PIZZERIA Dresden
FREAKO Detroit-Style Pizza
Pizzeria in Dresden
FREAKO in Dresden-Striesen bakes rectangular Detroit-style pizza and brews its own craft beer. The dough is folded by hand and baked in dedicated pans, producing a cheese crust around the edge. For an upcoming visit, note that the restaurant will be closed from 2 to 4 October 2026 inclusive for operational reasons.
An American influence in Striesen
Andreas previously worked as an engineer and Bettina in the museum sector. After several working years in the USA, they wanted to bring some of its restaurant and bar culture to Dresden. They spent roughly two years developing dough, toppings and beer before opening FREAKO in May 2024, inspired by the neighbourhood pizza shop.
Banana barbecue sauce and preserved lemon
Chicken BBQ has chicken breast in banana barbecue sauce, smoky, spicy almond crunch, pickled red onions and coriander. Rucola combines preserved-lemon ricotta cream, rocket, panko and pine-nut crunch, and balsamic vinegar. Both have the baked cheese crust. The restaurant suggests a small pizza for one or two people and a large one for two or three.
Plant-based pizza and a sweet finish
The vegan Marinara tops Detroit-style dough with tomato sauce, almond Parmesan and basil. For dessert, Monkey Bread is a cinnamon pull-apart bread made from pizza dough, served with vanilla frosting and intended for two or three people.
Beer and advance orders
The house-brewed beer is supplemented by a changing selection of bottled beers, including alcohol-free options. Telephone pre-orders are taken from 4 pm Wednesday to Sunday; regular restaurant service starts at 5 pm. FREAKO accepts table reservation requests by email.
