L’Osteria at Friedrichsplatz 12 occupies an arcade-fronted address by Mannheim’s Wasserturm. Its terrace looks out over the square, with large pizzas and pasta at the centre of the menu both indoors and outside.
A new chapter for the former Onyx
The Mannheim branch moved into the former Onyx premises in September 2017 after five months of refurbishment. Its opening party on 28 September was for invited guests. The local report at the time also described an open kitchen where guests could watch the food being prepared.
Two toppings on one large pizza
Pizzas measure 45 centimetres across and can have different toppings on each half. Two distinct counters shape the dining room: the glass-screened kitchen beneath brass-coloured lamps, and the wood-panelled bar lined with round, padded stools.
Globe-shaped glass lights hang above the bar. An upholstered bench and small round tables provide further seating beside it. Seats closer to the kitchen face the preparation counter behind glass, with black wall tiles and a large Cucina sign marking out this part of the restaurant.
Family meals and food to take away
Highchairs and a changing facility are provided for children, and every pasta dish is available in a smaller portion. Dogs are welcome and have a water station. All dishes can also be ordered for collection. The restaurant stays open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, and until 11pm on the other days.
