LA PIZZERIA Köln
485 Grad
Pizzeria in Köln
At Luftschiff-Platz 1 in Cologne’s Nippes district, 485 Grad combines Neapolitan pizza with a wine bar. The restaurant stands within the residential Clouth quarter and has a summer terrace. Eating outside here places you on a former industrial site: production at the Clouth rubber works ended in 2005.
Pizza from a hot oven
The name refers to an oven temperature of 485 degrees. According to the operator, the dough rests for 72 hours before baking for around a minute. The ingredients include San Marzano tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella from Paestum.
Popeye Pie combines mountain cheese, fior di latte, baby spinach and garlic. Vegan Marinara de Luxe comes with tomatoes, oregano, garlic oil and capers.
Lunch and larger gatherings
Lunch options include panuozzi with mortadella, vegetables or Caprese fillings, plus pasta. Exclusive use of the restaurant is available for company and private events; a pizzaiolo can demonstrate the pizza-making on request. Cologne roaster Van Dyck lists this branch among its coffee outlets.
A walk around the former Clouth works
A stop on the quarter’s history trail stands directly on Luftschiffplatz. Its illustrated information panels tell the story of the Clouth company. The fifth stop focuses on airship construction: an airship was completed here in 1909 and subsequently presented at Frankfurt’s Internationale Luftschifffahrt-Ausstellung. A walk through the former works before dinner can take in further stops covering rubber mixing, Hall 17 and the former factory gates.
